Postage stamp

more than a symbol

The postage stamp is one of the main symbols of the Post. Today, the postage stamp lives its second life – it's at the same time the means for paying postal services and the material symbol of a specific culture.

From its beginning until today, the postage stamp was, because of its wide distribution, collecting and propaganda attraction, the object of special attention for postal administrations as well regarding its graphic and artistic realization as its themes and motifs. Stamps are papers of value, like money, and they are reproduced on rubberized paper with protective perforation. Special stamps are issued in limited number of copies and are never reissued. This fact assures the seriousness of the Postal authority itself and the confidence of collectors. The postage stamp is the ambassador of the country and presents historical events, famous personalities, nature, flora, fauna, sports events, jubilees and also has educational function.

In the name of the PTT system of Serbia, “Jugomarka” is responsible for the realization of annual programs of postage stamps issues.
